The specs do not mention that this unit has a cooling fan that turns on as soon as you turn on the power, and remains on until all power is shut off. I find it at least as noisy as my convection/microwave oven – and maybe moreso. I just received the unit today and all I did was boil water to cook pasta. Yes, it boiled quickly and when I was done and turned it off, it seemed to cool down sooner than hotplates I’ve had in the past. So I expect it will provide a very good cooking and temperature control environment…..

IF I KEEP IT. I was not prepared for a noticeable fan noise whenever I’m cooking, and I’m not sure it’s worth the superior temperature control. I’m now wondering about an induction unit instead. I assume these would be silent, and if I got one of good quality, I probably would have an equally satisfying appliance.

I find it troubling that the fan is not mentioned in the description or the specs. In re-reading the reviews, one reviewer mentioned there was a fan with no complaints. Amazon should be sure to put this information in the description and specs.

I have owned this for about 4 months now and use it once a week at most. I really wanted to like it, and I should considering how much I spent.

However, when I first got it it would take 20-30 minutes to preheat and could not boil water without covering it, even on the highest setting. After maybe two months it seemed to heat up faster so I would preheat on high and then put it down to medium or low for light cooking. Eventually I noticed that the front burner seemed to be staying on high even when on the lowest setting and all of my food was burning. After turning it off I used the laser thermometer on it and it was reading over 550°, which seems very high for the lowest setting.

Now, the back burner power light goes on and off intermittently and seems to be heating sporadically. Maybe I got a deffective product. In any case I’m looking into the warranty, but being that it involves finding a service center, I’m not sure that will go anywhere.

The title says all I have to say, but I have to put some words in this box, too, or the form won’t submit.

The first one i received did not work but contacting the seller imediatly solved my problem, shipped it back and i received a new working one withing days, the only thing is that it takes a while for it to heat up but other than that, is pretty good and sturdy, usually have something cooking all day and this little machine has handled it very well, i had it for a couple of months now and i can say i have had no problems with it.

This is the second hot plate I’ve purchased from Cadco in order to prepare herbal infusions. The product works great and is well constructed. I need accurate temperatures, and when monitoring heat settings, I’ve found that these units consistently supply heat with little fluctuation in temperature. But note, there are no specific temperatures indicated on the dials, you have to monitor temperatures with a thermometer. I am using a 50 quart 18″ diameter stainless steel pan, which covers both hot plates simultaneously, and the unit preforms flawlessly under less than ideal conditions.

We purchased this item in response to all of the positive reviews – should have paid more attention to the fact that there were only eight reviews at the time.

    Here is our experience:
    * The item arrived with stains on the cast iron heat elements that could not be removed with a damp cloth
    * The device is very slow to heat up
    * It draws a lot of power and blew the circuit breaker on first use
    * The device has fans that are noisy
    * The cast iron heat elements gave off smoke that made us nauseous despite operation next to a ventilation fan on “high”

Given the high cost of the device, I was actually angered by this purchase. We will be returning this item.

Their specification says they use 1800 watts at 120volts but they have a 20 amp 120V plug which is not useable in a normal kitchen. I returned the item and was charged a $192.65 restocking charge. NEVER BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE CROOKED.

Hands down this is a commercial quality hot plate that exceeded my expectation. There are 30-40 dollar hot plates out there and the moral of this story is you get what you pay for. I purchased this to serve as a stove top in our hotel suite to heat gravy and to boil water for the stream trays during our 2013 Thanksgiving family reunion. It boiled two large pots of water in under 15 minutes. The unit has an internal cooling fan that cools the components inside. It’s noticeable but those who might complain should get out of the Kitchen! I expect a long service life from this Hot Plate and will use it frequently. Simply and outstanding, well made and super effective piece of kitchen equipment. Couldn’t be more satisfied.
